Inaugural Parade - GWB

Catherine and I went to the Inaugural Parade for GWB of his second term. The place was shoulder to shoulder with cops, and lined with soldiers every 10 feet. We had to go through a security checkpoint – it was longer leaving than getting in. We were interviewed by CBN – we didn’t say much. We had a great spot right on the hill of freedom plaza. But then they made us clear the hill - it’s where the snowman is standing. I think they were afraid of snowballs. Then we got right up to the front line. There was a command post of some sort right on top of the hotel just down the block. We saw several bus and car loads of VIPs. Then the president's limo drove right by - we could see him waving! The crowd was fairly well behaved, there were some protesters behind us - but they didn't have much spirit; I think they were bored college kids. We saw one guy running away from the cops outside of the secure area - he was tackled by about 5 officers while about 30 others looked on - not the day to mess with the cops. It was a cold day, but fun to be a part of.
