Whitehouse Egg Roll
Debbie stood in line all Friday night to get tickets to the Whitehouse Egg Roll. Today, she dropped Catherine and Caroline and I off so we could go! and then she got stuck in parade traffic and could not attend.
We sailed right through security and went all over the south lawn of the Whitehouse. We saw the Army band, Jack Hanna and his animals, and did several activities. It was cold and rainy, but we got to do it all. We didn’t see any dignitaries, but the President was supposed to be in the residence. Security was really high, Catherine saw several secret service officers in the bushes in full combat gear with some serious firepower – and they don’t like to be photographed. There were tons of guys with ear pieces walking around; all friendly but really serious. There was no drama whatsoever with the same sex couples with children who attended, other than their flowers they blended right in. There were 5 loud protesters outside on the ellipse, otherwise you would not have known any thing controversial was happening but I’m sure that will get all the coverage. We had a really good time; It was very neat standing on the south lawn.

Cherry Blossoms
Catherine and I took a long walk through the Capitol today – the Cherry Blossoms were at their peak and the weather was perfect. We started at Arlington Cemetery, walked across Memorial Bridge to the Lincoln, then went by the Korean and the Vietnam memorials, then went by the WWII and on toward the tidal basin. The Trees were in full bloom and the weather was nice, all of DC was out. There was a ceremony at the Japanese lantern on the tidal basin. From there we made our way to L'Enfant plaza and rode the metro back to Virginia.
