Anacortes, Deception Pass Bridge, and Whidbey Island

After the swim meet, we took the scenic way home because it turned out to be such a beautiful day. We drove through Washington Park just west of Anacortes. We went out on a bluff that overlooks the sound and the San Juan Islands, there were dolphin's playing below us, and the snow capped mountains were quite visible. We drove south towards Whidbey Island overlooking the sound most of the way. We crossed Deception Pass Bridge. It’s a double channel that connects Skagit Bay with the Strait of Juan de Fuca - it has a really strong current flowing through this narrow channel. Even large boats line up waiting for slack tide make the crossing. We drove the length of Whidbey Island enjoying the rolling hills, ocean and bay views the entire way to the southern tip. We then took the ferry to Mukilteo and then headed home. It was a postcard day.

Anacortes Swim Meet

We got up early and drove up to Anacortes. It is about 75 miles north if Seattle. Anacortes is on a peninsula that projects into Puget sound. Its a really nice setting. We were expecting rain and cloud cover, but the sun was out all day. Catherine, and Morgan had a good meet they each swam about 5 events, and finished with a 500M freestyle event. Thats 20 laps! Afterward, we had lunch with the Mark, Kim, and Morgan in Anacortes. It was such a nice day we decided to take the long way home.

Juanita Swimmeet

This was a 2 day event, so we felt like we lived at the pool. Catherine swam in about 7 events, she had a number of strong finishes as did Morgan. Caroline and I wandered around a bit and she watched her DVD player for a while to pass the time.

More Snow!

We didn't expect any more snow, but we were greeted with about 5 inches on March 1. I had a dinner in Redmond where it was raining, 1/2 way home there was an inch of snow on the road, and 2 miles later it was blowing so hard it was hard to see! The next morning it was clear and crisp outside, i had to shovel the driveway. Its yet another snow day for the girls!
